Wanted Barriere man accused of theft from dead person’s home

BARRIERE, B.C. — RCMP in Barriere are looking for a 30-year-old man wanted in a theft case with a disturbing twist.

In a news release, Cpl. Rob Welsman says the detachment launched an investigation in late April after the Louis Creek home of a recently-deceased person was the scene of a break-and-enter. The thief took various items from the home.

Two weeks after the theft, RCMP responding to a car crash in McLure found items belonging to the deceased person, including a number of cheques.

Investigators believe the cheques were used in the fraudulent purchase of a vehicle.

The suspect is Trevor James Richardson of Barriere.

Richardson is facing one count of theft of a motor vehicle and two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000.
