It was Bronze for Team Burnaby yesterday in the Men’s U17 K4 1000m at the Canadian National Sprint Canoe & Kayak Championships and three Kamloops Athletes helped make it happen. Spencer Robinson, Matao Buist and Stanley Netherton joined Burnaby’s Ivan Strashenko to make a full crew for the 4 man boat. The team had only one opportunity to train together before the race but the unknown team quickly drew attention when they won their qualifying Heat with a blistering time of 3:13.717. The finals were much closer with less than half a second between Burnaby and Dartmouth Nova Scotia’s Banook team who placed 4th. The race was live streamed from the Welland International Flatwater Center which allowed friends and family back in Kamloops and around The world to watch the race live.
