Winter Training Program Goes Long Distance

Frozen water does not mean an end to training for Kamloops’ Sprint Canoe / Kayak Athletes. Last weekend KCKC athletes completed a long distance time trial on water of another kind (albeit frozen). To maintain their endurance the local athletes have been cross-country skiing and working up on their distances, culminating last weekend with a long distance time trial at Stake Lake. Junior team members skied 10-20 Km and Senior members covered between 40 and 50 Km.

Since November KCKC Coach Stan Marek has had the team on a cross training schedule that includes swimming, indoor rock climbing, weight training, running and cross-country skiing. Team members can train up to 6 days per week during the winter training schedule.
