Furniture and equipment, nearly 100 bicycles up for grabs in City of Kamloops’ first auction

KAMLOOPS — A one-stop-shop for all your cycling and filing cabinet needs.

The City of Kamloops says it will host a three-day event in August with Team Auctions to auction off hundreds of surplus assets – including tools, automotive parts, industrial equipment, office furniture and equipment, electric equipment, and nearly 100 bicycles.

Ray Sison, Kamloops’ purchasing and inventory manager, says this is the first time the city has done an auction of this nature.

“We hope it will be a good opportunity for residents and local industry to find deals on items they can use while freeing up space in City storage facilities and earning some return to support the City’s general reserves,” Sison says. “Most City assets are used to the end of their useful life; however, as the City upgrades technology and builds efficiencies, some items fall through the cracks and are no longer usable by the City while still potentially proving valuable to others.”

The bicycles up for auction were acquired by the City and Kamloops RCMP but are unclaimed. Residents seeking a lost or stolen bike are asked to attend the open house to search for it. Bikes identified by owners will not be sold, but will be returned to the City’s Community Services Division so the owner can file an official claim.

“We hope this event can reunite as many residents as possible with their lost or stolen property,” Sison says. “We have extended evening hours on both days for viewing to try to accommodate people’s schedules and to give them an opportunity to make a claim.”

Online bidding begins at 9 a.m. on Aug. 4 and closes at 9 a.m. on Aug. 6.

Items can be viewed in person at Valleyview Arena on Aug. 4 and 5 from noon to 8 p.m.
