Thompson-Okanagan FC, the BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL) club representing the Okanagan region, has scheduled twelve league matches against Coastal FC teams this weekend at McArthur Island.

The schedule is:

Saturday, October 13:
1:00pm – U13 Boys Intake vs. Coastal FC – McArthur Island #7
1:00pm – U14 Boys vs. Coastal FC – McArthur Island #6
1:00pm – U15 Boys vs. Coastal FC – McArthur Island #5
3:00pm – U13 Boys vs. Coastal FC – McArthur Island #7
3:00pm – U16 Boys vs. Coastal FC – McArthur Island #5
3:00pm – U17 Boys vs. Coastal FC – McArthur Island #6
Sunday, October 14:
1:00pm – U13 Girls Intake vs. Mountain United FC – McArthur Island #7
1:00pm – U14 Girls vs. Coastal FC – McArthur Island #6
1:00pm – U16 Girls vs. Coastal FC – McArthur Island #5
3:00pm – U13 Girls vs. Coastal FC – McArthur Island #7
3:00pm – U15 Girls vs. Coastal FC – McArthur Island #6
3:00pm – U17 Girls vs. Coastal FC – McArthur Island #5

Okanagan-area districts host TOFC matches on a quasi-rotation basis during the season. This will be the last round of BCSPL games to be played in Kamloops before the fields are closed for the winter.

TOFC has been in existence for six years. The club is one of the founding members of the BC Soccer Premier League that started in 2012.

There are eight clubs that participate in the BCSPL: Coquitlam Metro Ford, Fusion FC (drawing primarily from Richmond and Vancouver area), Preston GM Langley FC, Mountain United FC (drawing from Burnaby and North Vancouver), Coastal FC (drawing from Delta, Surrey and White Rock), Vancouver Island Wave, Surrey United and Thompson-Okanagan FC.

The club runs boys and girls teams from U13 to U18, drawing players from throughout the Thompson-Okanagan region and other interior communities.

The BC Soccer Premier League is the highest level of competition in youth soccer in the province.

Some 49 Kamloops-resident players currently play for TOFC teams.

TOFC––like the other seven BCSPL-member clubs––is seen as a feeding ground for provincial teams, universities and colleges throughout North America. The club also grooms players for national teams and professional soccer clubs. The Canada West conference of USPORTS is the destination for the majority of BCSPL graduating players. Some 76 student athletes are currently suiting up for Canada West teams.

“Playing for TOFC is a huge commitment on the part of the players and their parents,” says Kamloops Youth Soccer Association Executive Director, Keith Liddiard. “There is a significant amount of travel and expense involved. “I am very impressed with players who take the game seriously enough to do what it takes to reach the highest levels of the game.”

Liddiard adds, “It is good for aspiring players in Kamloops to take in some games and see the level of play that is evident in the BCSPL. They can then gauge if they think they might be good enough to play at that level or see where they may need to improve to make a TOFC team!”
